The study shows that retinal stem cells reside at the extreme peripheral edge of the CMZ, and that as the retina develops, they divide increasingly asymmetrically in the radial orientation.
The orientation of cell division planes with respect to the ciliary marginal zone (CMZ) is computed as schematically shown in fig.1.
